🫧 How to Clean Swaps
A Simple Guide to Cleaning Baby Clothes & Gear Safely
At Little Swaps, we believe resale should feel safe, beautiful, and intentional.
Before you list an item - or before you welcome it into your home, cleaning it properly matters.
Not just for hygiene.
But for peace of mind 🤍
We teamed up with Claudia from EverNeat, a mom-founded, non-toxic cleaning brand, to share a simple, safe way to prep baby clothes and gear.
Because mamas deserve clarity — not guesswork.
👶 Baby Clothes: Gentle but Thorough
Step 1: Wash Before Listing (and After Receiving)
Even if it looks clean, always wash.
✔ Use a fragrance-free, non-toxic detergent
✔ Avoid heavy fabric softeners
✔ Choose gentle cycles for delicate fabrics
Babies’ skin is sensitive and strong scents can linger.
Claudia recommends sticking to plant-based formulas that rinse fully without residue.
Step 2: Air Dry When Possible
Air drying:
Preserves fabric quality
Reduces shrinkage
Keeps pieces looking boutique-ready
And remember, presentation matters. Clean, wrinkle-free items sell faster.
🧸 Hard Goods: Toys, Gear & Baby Equipment
Step 3: Wipe Down Properly
For plastic toys, high chairs, or strollers:
✔ Use a non-toxic surface cleaner
✔ Wipe thoroughly
✔ Let air dry completely
Avoid harsh chemical sprays - especially on items babies chew or touch daily.
If something has fabric covers (like bouncers or car seat covers), remove and wash according to manufacturer instructions.
🍼 What NOT to Do
❌ No bleach on baby fabrics (unless absolutely necessary)
❌ No overpowering fragrance sprays
❌ No masking odors instead of washing
If it doesn’t feel fresh to you, it won’t feel fresh to another mama.
♻️ Why This Matters
Cleaning swaps isn’t just about hygiene.
It’s about:
• Respecting the next family
• Protecting sensitive skin
• Maintaining resale value
• Building trust in our community
Little Swaps works because moms trust each other.
And trust starts with care.
🤍A Note from Claudia, Founder of EverNeat
“As moms, we’re already mindful about what goes on our babies’ skin. The same intention should apply to what we pass along. Non-toxic cleaning isn’t just trendy. It’s foundational.”
